Italian particle physicist Massimilla “Milla” Baldo-Ceolin was born 12 August 1924, Legnago, Italy, to the owner of a small mechanical workshop.[1][2] She died on 25 November 2011.[3][4]

She graduated from the University of Padua in 1952, and became a Professor of Physics at the same University in 1958. In 1963, she became the first female to have a professorship (Chair of Physics Department) at the University of Padua. From 1998 until her death in 2011, she was a Professor Emeritus at the same university.[5][6]
