A McDonalds Quarter Pounder is made out of approximately 1/4 pounds (pre-cook weight) of beef. It was introduced in the 1970's by Fremont's Mission McDonald's (so name because of its Spanish-themed architecture and proximity to Mission San Jose). This food item is one of McDonald's most popular menu items.
