Hike Messenger (stylized as hike messenger) is a cross-platform instant messaging mobile application available on the iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and S60. Hike is supported on Wi-Fi, 2G and 3G data networks. As of June 2014, Hike has over 20 million users globally and is among top 6 apps on Android, iOS and Windows Store in India. [1]

History

Hike was launched globally on 12-12-12. Hike is instant messaging app from BSB (Bharti SoftBank) Innovation Pvt. Ltd.

Hike has crossed 5 million users in April, 2013 and subsequently raised $7 million. In Feb, 2014 hike touched 15 million users and furthermore raised $14 million[2]

As of April, 2014 hike is now offering unlimited free SMS to its users. According to the latest plan from the company, the more a user chats on Hike, the more free SMS they will get and there is no limit to the amount of free SMS that can be earned. Users will also get 20 free SMS from the company as they join Hike for the first time, and will get a quick one-time bump of 50 free SMS on a successful invite sent to their friends. Notably, the free SMS balance lapses if a user remains inactive for more than 30 days.

Features

Hike allows users to share pictures, audio/video notes, location and contacts. Users can set chat wallpapers, nudge (a feature similar to BlackBerry's ping and done by double tapping the screen.), block contacts and turn off Last Seen updates.

Hike also allows to send attachment files like PDF, ZIP, APK, DOC, upto 100 mb.

Hike's notable "unlimited free SMS plan" is restricted to India only.
