Madrid–Galicia high-speed rail line

The Olmedo-Zamora-Galicia high-speed rail line is a railway line partially open in Spain that will link the cities of Olmedo, Zamora and Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia, when completed.

As of July 2013, trains in commercial service use the part of the line between Ourense and Santiago de Compostela. This part of the line was inaugurated in December 2011. It has a track gauge of 1,668 mm (5 ft 5+21⁄32 in) Iberian gauge, which is due to be converted to 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge later.

In Olmedo, the line is due to be connected to the Madrid–Valladolid high-speed rail line.

History

In December 2011, the part of the line between Ourense and Santiago de Compostela was inaugurated.

In July 2013, an S730 train derailed in a non-AVE stretch near the Santiago de Compostela station.
