Skyforge is a free-to-play multiplayer online role-playing game developed by the Allods Team studio and published by My.com. The project has been in development since 2010 and will launch into closed beta in Q4 2014 for PC.[1]

First screenshots of the game were revealed at the private Skyforge showcase at the Russian Game Developers Conference 2012.

Gameplay

In Skyforge, players take on a larger than life role as an Immortal with incredible powers battling protect his world.[2] Character progression within the game is not level based.[3] Instead of a traditional leveling format, Skyforge features a “prestige” system, which allows a player to advance based on the sum total of the stats from the player’s equipment. As a player gains more prestige, more content, gear, and followers are unlocked.[4]

Setting

Skyforge is set in a world where fantasy meets science fiction and ancient mysteries live alongside cutting-edge technologies.[5] Skyforge showcases the planet of Aelion, which is named after its great god and protector Aeli.[6]

Combat

Skyforge is an action-combat game in which players move through the world using WASD and mouse. [7]The player’s primary abilities are focused on the left and right mouse buttons so movement and combat are seamlessly blended. [8]

Story

The planet of Aelion was once a free world protected by the god Aeli, who helped civilization flourish.[9] Aelion has since lost its greater god, and is now only protected by Immortals and a few remaining lesser gods. Without a strong greater god to protect it, Aelion is a target for the armies of hostile gods and is constantly under the threat of cataclysmic invasions. Eventually, players will gain the power, renown, and followers to become gods themselves, enabling them to protect Aelion and counter invasions.[10]

Character Classes

Unlike typical RPGs where players choose their classes and level up throughout the game, Skyforge allows players to choose a class at the start of each battle and gives full access to the class. Players can change between classes they have unlocked at any time that they are not in combat. There are three groups of classes: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. [11]The beginner group consists of three classes: Lightbinder, Cryomancer, and Paladin. Once players complete gain enough experience in the game, they will be granted access to Intermediate and Advanced groups, which contain five classes each. [12]
