The Journal of the American Chemical Society is a weekly peer-reviewed scientific journal that was established in 1879 by the American Chemical Society.[1] The journal has absorbed two other publications in its history, the Journal of Analytical and Applied Chemistry (July 1893) and the American Chemical Journal (January 1914). It publishes original research papers in all fields of chemistry. Since 2002, the journal is edited by Peter J. Stang (University of Utah).[2]
Abstracting and indexing
The Journal of the American Chemical Society is abstracted and indexed in Chemical Abstracts Service, Scopus, EBSCOhost, Thomson-Gale, ProQuest, PubMed, Web of Science, and SwetsWise. According to the Journal Citation Reports, it has a 2013 impact factor of 11.444.[3]
New Pricing Model
Under ACS’s new pricing model, the costs for Universities will be determined solely by usage. Due to a report from the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN), any future growth in usage that would move a participating institution into a higher usage band would result in a prohibitive price increase that could triple the cost of the ACS content.[4]
Due to a 2004 House of Commons report (The Science and Technology Committee),[5] the ACS is one of the driving forces of the STM (Science, Technology, Medicine) "serials crisis".
