I don't believe he was called "Elder" in order to distinguish him from his son. He was called Elder becaue he was an Elder in the church. There are a lot of colonists who had sons with the same first name, they would distinguish them the same way we do today, with "senior," and "junior," I believe. At this time, I'm not going to edit the page but I think it should be modified to remove the comment about why he was called "Elder."
