Mombacho

Mombacho is a volcano in Nicaragua, near the city of Granada. It is 1344 metres high.

Home to one of the most beautiful remaining areas of tropical rainforest in Nicaragua, it contains some flora and fauna that are unique to this area. It has been declared a Natural Reserve. Ten minutes away from the city of Granada (Nicaragua). The volcano has fantastic views of lake Cocibolca and its islands, and the volcano has several great trails for hiking.

Mombacho is an active volcano but it has been sleeping since 1570, when the last eruption occurred. There is no historical knowledge of earlier eruptions.

There are more than 700 different plants registered around Mombacho. Included are many species of orchids.
