Tijana Jurić (Тијана Јурић; 4 May 1999[3] — 26 July 2014) was a Serbian girl who was abducted and murdered in Bajmok on 26 July 2014. Her body was found on 7 August 2014.[4] The murderer was her body buried in a dump in the village Čonoplja, 23 kilometers from where Tijana was abducted in Bajmok. On 6 August 2014, Belgrade police arrested butcher Dragan Đuric from Surčin who kidnapped and killed Tijana.[5]

Disappearance

Tijana has disappeared in the night between 25 and 26 July 2014 in village Bajmok. The same evening she went to Bajmok to be met with friends.[6][7] According to some sources, the kidnapper watched Tijana on the fatal night for a long time. When she alone went to the sports center “Rata” to return a sweatshirt to a friend, he used the moment to drag her into his car.[8][9] Brave girl tried to escape, and in the struggle her nail broke off and a sneaker slipped, which were later found during the investigation. Every trace and contact with her friends was lost between 12 and 1 o’clock in the morning.[10][11]

The body of Tijana Jurić was found near Sombor in northern Serbia, and the police have a 34-year-old man, Dragan Đurić, in custody as a suspect in the case. He admitted to the crime and showed the investigators where he buried the victim.[12]

Because of this murder, initiated the request for the introduction of the death penalty in Serbia in order to punish the murderer.[13]

Mural

A giant painting of the tragically deceased Tijana Juric on one residential building on the "Radijalac" promenade in Subotica. Belgrade-based artist Andrej Josifovski managed to paint a larger portion of the mural that depicts Tijana, despite the rain. The picture has an inscription on the lower part reading "Rest in Peace", along with the year of her birth and death. The mural was done based on Tijana’s favorite picture of herself from her graduation.[14] Initially, Tijana’s friends wanted the mural to be painted on the building of the museum, but instead they got a permit to do it on the residential building located on the promenade.[15]
