Workiva created Wdesk, a cloud-based platform for enterprises to collect, manage, report and analyze business data in real time. Wdesk includes a sophisticated productivity suite for business data collaboration and reporting that is used by thousands of corporations, including more than 60 percent of the Fortune 500. Wdesk proprietary word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications are fully integrated and built upon the Workiva data management engine. Wdesk helps reduce enterprise risk and increase productivity with synchronized data, controlled collaboration, granular permissions and a full audit trail. This gives users confidence to make decisions with real-time data. Workiva employs more than 900 people with offices in 15 cities. The company is headquartered in Ames, Iowa.

Company history

The company was founded in 2008 specializing in software as a service. Six members of the founding management team previously worked together to form Engineering Animation, Inc.[1]

Prior to 2010, no one had automated how public companies report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The result was Corporations were burdened with obsolete, manual processes that were time consuming and fraught with errors. The Workiva cloud-based SEC reporting solution was created and marketed to companies in 2010 to address this issue and change the way corporations collected and reported business data.

The Wdesk product platform combines documents, spreadsheets, and presentations into one place that links data together. Wdesk keeps reporting Information up to date and secure. Wdesk powers all the Workiva Solutions.[2]
