Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is an advanced stage of peripheral artery disease. It includes ischemic rest pain, arterial insufficiency ulcers, and gangrene. The latter two conditions together are referred to as "tissue loss". CLI has a negative prognosis within a year after the initial diagnosis, an amputation rate of 14-20% and a death rate of 25% within the first year and 50% within five years.
