Piper Dellums
Piper Dellums is an author and the daughter of United States politician Ron Dellums.
Her story about a South African girl coming to live with her family in the 1970s titled "Simunye", was the basis for the Disney movie The Color of Friendship.[1][failed verification] The film won an Emmy Award. In The Color of Friendship, the role of Piper Dellums was played by Shadia Simmons. Her brother Erik is an actor and voice actor. Piper is a graduate of University of California, at Berkeley where she studied Psychology, Biology, and Theater. She earned her graduate degree in Drama Therapy with an emphasis in Bio Chemistry at New York University. She went on to teach writing, theater and film making before becoming a documentary film maker and covering issues of housing, third world sterilization of women, global AIDS pandemic, the Daniel Pearl assassination, and other poignant stories throughout the United States, Israel, South and East Africa, and Europe.
An established and recognized author, Piper Dellums has published children's stories with Viking Press/Penguin Group USA, edited by Jill Davis in New York City. Her latest books are MOMMY and ME and the Things that are Free, The Road to Nkamba, Lyrics- Life, Love & Lamentations. Her story, SIMUNYE, can be read in ,"Open Your Eyes: Extraordinary Experiences in Faraway Places."The story was adapted into a Disney film entitled, "The Color of Friendship". Piper Dellums was the Senior Vice President of EGTVN Productions and Television- A DISH network. She is also founder of (EAG) Essential Artist Group Talent Agency in Los Angeles, California. Piper is also a producer, writer, narrator and director- with such documentaries as RED ROAD, RENT PARTY:PAYING IT FORWARD IN RHYTHM AND HUES, TO NOT STAND IDLY BY, and DANDELIONS.
Piper is the mother to two daughters, Sydney Ross and Dylan Ross. She resides in Southern California .
