JGL Racing is a race team in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Entering competition in 2014, the team fields the #24 Hefty/Reynolds Wrap Toyota for Eric McClure and the #28 Toyota for J.J. Yeley,. Carl Long serves as competition director for the team.[2] At Homestead, the #28 side of the team made a manufacture change to Toyota Camry's.

History

2014

J.J. Yeley's 5th place car at Road America

Former partners James Whitener and and Gregg Mixon of GIC-Mixon Motorsports formed a new team announced on January 20, 2014, purchasing cars and leasing engines from Team Penske. The team operates out of Competition Director Carl Long's raceshop along with other teams. Mike Wallace ran the #28 at Daytona with Unker's Medicated Cream, with the intent of running the full season, while Matt Carter (son of Travis Carter) drove the #93.[3] Wallace, an excellent Superspeedway racer, finished 13th at Daytona, while Carter DNQ'd.[4] Wallace finished a solid 20th at Phoenix, with Carl Long finishing 37th in the #93.[5] J.J. Yeley joined the team at Vegas, finishing 21st in the #93, while wallace finished 26th.[6] Wallace took home another top-25 at Bristol in the #28, then finished 21st at Fontana while Yeley ran the #93 to a 19th. Yeley ran 16th at Texas in the #93, then 14th at Darlington in the 28 while Wallace ran 3 spots behind in the #93. Yeley ran 18th at Richmond in the 28, while Wallace ran 27th in the 93. This was to be the last race for Mike Wallace with the team.

Meanwhile, Yeley, now the full-time driver of the #28, posted a strong 7th place finish at Talladega.[7] He then ran a strong 5th on rain tires at Road America.[8] Mike Wallace returned in the 93 at Daytona in July with sponsorship from Smith Transportation, working out a deal with the team that would put his son Matt in the 93 at a race of his choice if Mike finished in the top-5.[9] Though he didn't get that top-5, he finished a strong tenth, while Yeley finished 35th after an accident. Yeley ran 14th at Chicagoland in July. Up-and-comer Kevin Swindell joined the team at Indianapolis with sponsorship from Curb Records and John Christner Trucking.[10] Swindell and Yeley finished 23rd and 24th respectively.

At Watkins Glen International, Yeley's #28 car was involved in a crash with Trevor Bayne entering turn 6, which both Yeley's crew chief and analyst Andy Petree noted as the third incident of the day in which Bayne had spun out another competitor. Afterwards, Yeley got out of his car and expressed his displeasure with Bayne as he passed by, and in his post-wreck interview.[11] Yeley would be credited with a 35th place finish out of 39 cars. Meanwhile, road course racer and movie promoter Tomy Drissi drove the 93 car to a 20th place finish with sponsorship from the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film in 3D. Drissi also ran the following week at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.[12]

At Richmond International Raceway, Driver Ryan Ellis in the #93 Kappa Sigma Dodge Challenger started his first race in the season for the team. Starting 29th, Ryan avoided wrecks and finished 24th, 7 spots ahead of top teir driver JJ Yeley. Ryan Did not return to race for the team for the rest of the year due to sponsorship reasons. The designer of the car, Todd Casteel, only had his deigns on that particular #93. SLC and P1 Groupe were associate sponsors and also did not return for the season.

2015

The team will return with 3 teams. Eric McClure will drive the 24, which was the 93, Mike Wallace will run a third car numbered 26, and Yeley will return to the 28.

Equipment and paint schemes

JGL Racing used Dodge Challengers purchased from Team Penske and engines also leased from PENSKE, as do other teams in the Nationwide Series such as Vision Racing. Because of this, the schemes of the 28 and 93 still resembled those of Penske's #12 Alliance Truck Parts and #22 Discount Tire cars.
