Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster is Loose [1] is going to be the third in a "series" of albums. It is believed that the album will be written mostly by Jim Steinman and performed by Meat Loaf. It comes after Bat Out of Hell (1977) and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell (1993), and is due for release October 31, 2006. It will be produced by Desmond Child. A tour will follow the release.

During the concerts in his last tour, Hair Of The Dog Tour, he made a point to mention that he and Jim Steinman were putting out a new album, due in September 2006. Work had begun and, as of November 2005, Desmond Child has been producing (offbeat choice Michael Beinhorn was originally reported, but he was later dropped).

Current information given by some involved says that Jim Steinman doesn't have anything to do with this project, so it is unclear whether the album will feature any of his songs. However, at a 2005 concert in Jones Beach, NY, Meat Loaf sang a previously unreleased song called "Only When I Feel", which he credited to Steinman, to appear on an album matching this title. Also, in a concert in Durham, NH, he attributed this number to "Jim" and stated he would be working with "Jim" on the new album.

However, in a radio interview on BBC Radio 2 (aired in April 2006) Meat Loaf stated that Bat Out of Hell III would not be worked on by Jim Steinman. However, the trademark to the phrase "Bat Out Of Hell" for CDs and music is currently owned by Jim Steinman. Meat Loaf is now hoping to record and market Bat Out Of Hell III without Steinman's involvement. Meat Loaf applied for the trademark to the title, but was rejected because of Steinman's trademarks, so Meat Loaf is currently attempting to have Steinman's trademarks revoked and granted to him. The announcement that Steinman will not be working on the album has caused an uproar among certain fans who have come to expect from the previous albums in the series that Steinman would be the sole composer.

In a federal lawsuit dated May 26, the rocker, whose real name is Marvin Aday, said the expression "Bat Out of Hell" had been publicly associated with him since the 1977 release of his album. The suit claims defendant Jim Steinman, who wrote the original song of the same name, wrongly claims ownership of the phrase.

Steinman and Meat Loaf's manager, defendant David Sonenberg, have been trying to disrupt the October release of the third Bat Out of Hell album by telling the singer's distributors that Aday had no right to use the phrase, according to the suit.

It is currently set to be released on October 31, 2006, with the first single already being played, the title track The Monster Is Loose, on WOBR-FM, Nags Head, NC, in the United States.
