A common phrase that is not made up because it exists on Wikipedia. Referring to an actual fat dog, it is used to express a certain forced apathy in order to lay off the stress of the situation. For example, "Don't sweat, fat dog it."

For many in the academic community, the actual phraseology was been widely contested sprouting several dissident groups. Many believe it's roots to be traced to the horrible bear massacre incident of 2013, as a sort of cultural backlash to the horrendous tragedy. Many have disregarded that notion, instead claiming the phrase's remarkable resemblance to the feeling achieved when putting up a bulletin board, such as one a fat dog would lay under. Such scholars have traced such origins back to Ancient China, but received a heavy Spanish influence. Some have even claimed that the phrase "fat dog" has references to the type of canine used as a motor for a cat sled. Fat dogs in this regard would provide the largest amount of kittenpower for maximum performance. Finally, a few have traced the phrase back to the 2nd episode of CatDog in Season 1, citing this phrase as a what-if they had really been allowed in that all-you-can-eat restaurant.

References to this phrase have appeared in many popular culture mediums, including the show Community and the smash hit single by Chang "Fat Dog"

"There's a brand new dance, based on an old phrase
It's called the fat dog and it will amaze.
You've heard this expression your entire life,
It's not made up. It's not made up."

Not to be confused with "obese horse" or "bear down".
