[[Hayashi was a naval Captain retired on reserves in 1916. [3] Mr Hayashi employed Reiki to treat his patients. He began studying with Usui in 1920 at age 47 yrs.[4] [5] Hayashi taught the Usui system of reiki under Reiki Kenkyu-kai in Hawaii. He had a clinic in Tokyo,at Shinano-machi, Yotsurya. After Usui and has kept the way of Usui's teaching core teachings in Tact. Mrs Hawayo Takata was his official successor as Reiki Grand Master or President from 1940 to 1980[[.[6]]]

Hayashi initiated and trained [[Mrs Hawayo H Takata[7]]] and helped her bring Reiki to Hawaii in 1937.[8] As some of the popular history of Reiki consists of Takata's life story.[9] [10] Hayashi is often considered to be Usui's chief disciple and the second Grand Master of Reiki history.[[ [11] ]]

In 1940, Hayashi performed Seppku or 'died by his own blade [[.[12]]] rather than join the war.
