Solis was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18th round of the 2007 MLB Draft, but he did not sign in order to play college baseball. Solis attended the University of San Diego, where he played for the San Diego Toreros baseball team. He was drafted again by the Nationals in the second round of the 2010 MLB Draft. Before the 2012 season, MLB.com rated Solis as the 86th best prospect in baseball.[1] He had Tommy John surgery and returned to Potomac in 2013.[2]

After the 2013 season, the Nationals added Solis to their 40-man roster.[3]

He was promoted to the major leagues on April 29, 2015.
