Dr Richard Ward (born 1957) joined Cunningham Lindsey as Executive Chairman in June 2014. [1] Cunningham Lindsey is the leading global provider of claims management and risk service solutions, with an operating platform of over 7,000 employees in 60 countries.

In addition to Cunningham Lindsey, Richard is Non-Executive Chairman of Brit place, a market-leading global specialty insurer and reinsurer. He also serves as Non-Executive Director of Partnership Assurance Group plc and is a member of the PRA Practitioner Panel, Bank of England.

Prior to these roles, Richard was Chief Executive of Lloyd's of London, from 2006 to 2013. Lloyd's is the world's leading specialist insurance and reinsurance market, writing $37.5bn of business per annum and paying claims of $10-$15bn in over 200 countries and territories.[2]

Richard previously worked for over ten years at the London-based International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), the second largest energy trading exchange - re-branded ICE Futures, as both Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman.

Prior to the IPE, Richard held a range of senior positions at British Petroleum (BP) and was Head of Marketing & Business Development for energy derivatives worldwide at Tradition Financial Services.

Between 1982 and 1988, Richard worked as a Senior Physicist with the Science and Engineering Research Council, leading a number of research development projects.

Richard has a 1st Class Honours degree in Chemistry, and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Exeter University. He is married with two children and lives in London.

Education

He graduated from the University of Exeter with a BSc, 1st Class Hons in Chemistry and holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry.[3]

Career

His initial career was as an applied scientist, first for the government agency SERC,[4] at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford and later for British Petroleum, where he moved into management.[5]

He was Chief Executive of the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) from 1999-2005 and Vice Chairman from 2005-2006, before taking up the position at Lloyd's.[6]

In addition to Cunningham Lindsey, Richard is Non-Executive Chairman of Brit Insurance,[7] a market-leading global specialty insurer and re-insurer. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Partnership Assurance Group Plc. Richard is a member of the PRA Practitioner Panel, Bank of England.

Titles and Honours

He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate (LLD) from the University of Exeter in 2009.
