Avro Heritage Museum, Woodford, is a museum that is due to open in late summer 2015. It is located at the former Woodford Aerodrome, and it replaces the former Avro Heritage Centre.

Location

The museum is located in Woodford[1], at the site of the former Woodford Aerodrome.[2]

Avro Heritage Centre

The Heritage Centre had five rooms containing displays and photos about AVRO, including models of aircraft designs. It also has an archive, as well as a small shop. It was only open for tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and visits were only possible by prior appointment.[3]

New museum

BAE Systems and Avro Heritage Trust commissioned the design and construction of the new museum. It is being constructed by Conlon Construction and Cassidy + Ashton.[2] The former fire station of the aerodrome is being converted to hold an exhibition hall, a gallery, a cafe, reading rooms, and classrooms.[2] Construction started in August 2014, and is scheduled for completion in February 2015.[2]

The new museum will be 70% larger than the previous centre.[3] It will hold Avro Heritage Trust's collection in 11,700 square feet (1,090 m2) of space. The exhibition will include an Avro Vulcan bomber[2], adjacent to the museum, number XM603, which will also be refurbished.[3] The museum is due to open in late summer 2015.[1]
