Meloyvær fortress is of great historical value, in both military and technical terms. It is an important reminder of defence strategies of the 20th century. The construction was of great strategic importance to NATO and northern Norway's role during the Cold War. Meloyvær fortress was the last of the fortresses with 120mm guns to be built in Norway, and is åpositioned according to the enemies at that time. It is a complete construction, authentic and in good condition.
