The village Than 'ठाॅॅँ"is a small village, and exists at Kandi Saroot Raod. (Post office Palra, Teh. Baroh, Distt. Kangra (H.P) Pin 176054. Than (ठाॅॅँ) is around 3KM far from Kandi Dholran(Upperliyan Hattiya-Kandi)(the old name). Population wise the village is very small but area wise the name "Than" is given to a huge geographical region. Geographical terrain is hilli but it is not plain. Hills terrain is not very steep.

At present this village is counted in backward villages of the country. The reason behind this is, the village has not yet been provided with the basic facilities like, Medical, roads etc. At present the village is around 1.2 km away from the road. If any villager of the village wants to reach the road, then he/ she has to walk for 1.3 km on a very narrow (2 to 3 feet wide) way up to the road. Recently the communication has been started with the a respected leader of the area (Name will be disclosed very soon)has taken the matter seriously and have taken step ahead towards constructing the road to link the village to the nearest road(Kandi-Saroot road).

More than 50% population of the village belongs to SC. The interesting fact about the village is that, the people of this village have always shown interest towards "Desh Seva". Hence most of the people have served Indian Army for many decades of their life.

The village belongs to a freedom fighter "Late. Rana Shankar Singh"

He has three sons "Late Rana Rai Singh" Army X-Serviceman. "Rana Budhi Singh" Army X-Serviceman" "Rana Bikram Singh" Army X-Serviceman"

Most of the grand children of "Late Rana Shankar Singh are still serving the country after joining Indian Army.

Other than these names, there are many other names like Late Rana Prem Chand, Late Pooran Chand and many more who served the country by joining Indian Army. The young generation of the village has also shown a huge interest in "Desh Bhakti" hence joined Inadian Army.

Around 30% villages are in Army, 20% are in Private/ IT sector and rest are working as labor on daily basis.

The point of attraction in the village;

1) Garh Mata mandir: Garh mata is an ancient temple constructed at a place called "Garh". The temple was constructed and maintained by the Raja, who used to have his Mahal there at that place. The ruins of the Mahal walls can still be seen there.

2) During rainy season nature comes to it peak. Natural water falls and the greenery, gives a full of peace to all nature lovers.

3) Village is full of natural resources. Normal viral fevers and typical diseases like headache, body aches are never sustainable in this area due to rich natural cures and fresh air environment.

4) People of the village are always supportive to each other and living their lives with honor and dignity.

Dhanywaad!!!
