Monica Coghlan was the prostitute at the centre of a scandal that involved Tory politician Jeffrey Archer in 1987. Although he won a libel case against the Daily Star who alleged that he slept with her it was later revealed that he perjured himself in the trial. This occurred in 2001 in a separate legal proceeding. Ironically Coghlan died in a car crash shortly before the second trial.
