Hayek is a surname, a variant spelling of the Czech name Hájek, which originally meant "a grove" and commonly occurs in Czech place names. It occurs among Jews in a Polish spelling as Chajek. The family name Hayek, Hayeck or Haiek, Arabic: حايك, variants of Howayek, is also found in Lebanon. The name means "weaver" in Arabic.
