Workiva Inc. (NYSE:WK) created Wdesk, a cloud-based productivity platform for enterprises to collect, link, report and analyze business data with control and accountability. Thousands of organizations, including over 65% of the Fortune 500, use Wdesk for risk, compliance or management reporting. Wdesk’s proprietary word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications are integrated and built upon a data management engine, offering synchronized data, controlled collaboration, granular permissions and a full audit trail. Wdesk helps mitigate enterprise risk, improve productivity and give users confidence to make decisions with real-time data. Workiva employs more than 950 people with offices in 15 cities. The company is headquartered in Ames, Iowa.

Company History

The company was founded in 2008 specializing in software as a service. Six members of the founding management team previously worked together to form Engineering Animation, Inc.[1]

Prior to 2010, no one had automated how public companies report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The result was that corporations were burdened with obsolete, manual processes that were time consuming and fraught with errors. The Workiva cloud-based SEC reporting solution was created and marketed to companies in 2010 to address this issue and change the way corporations collected and reported business data.

The Wdesk product platform combines documents, spreadsheets, and presentations into one place that links data together. Wdesk keeps reporting Information up to date and secure. Wdesk powers all the Workiva Solutions.[2]
