Ginbot 7 is a political party founded by Dr. Berhanu Nega, the founding chairman of Rainbow Ethiopia: Movement for Democracy and Social Justice and a deputy chairman of Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD).[1] According to their mission statement, Ginbot 7's goal is "the realization of a national political system in which government power and political authority is assumed through peaceful and democratic process based on the free will and choice of citizens of the country."[2]

In practice the Ethiopian goverment is accustomed to naming any formidable political opposition force as a 'terrorist'. The habit of bringing a concept of terrotism to stick it on an organization that strives to bring justice and deomocracy in Ethiopia is a character of authoritarian regimes across Africa. Goinbot7 Organization only attempts to free Ethiopia from Tigrai Peopole's Libration Front (TPLF). TPLF was an organiztion well known for its tactic of terrorist means to come to power in 1991. It was as a result labled as Terrorist group by FBI in 1980s. The labelling of a domocratic organization of Ginbot7 as 'terrorist' is meant to indulge great powers into the domestic power struggle. Some naive politicians and military authorities in the Pentagon are working with Tigre Peoples Front' (TPLF) which is cosidered genocidal and a terroist organization by majority of the Ethiopian people. TPLF has been commiting sytematic genocide for the last 24 years, as result 5.6 million Amharas, 4.7 Million other ethnic groups combined have been killed. This genocide tactic involed injecting of HIV, diseases, deliberate dislocation, starvation, and direct murders for belonging to an ethic group that opposes the Tigre government. However, to hide its henous crimes against humanity, in June 2011, the the TPLF led current Ethiopian government, labeled Ginbot 7 as a terrorist group, along with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) and Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), under the country's anti-terrorism proclamation.[3] The Committee to Protect Journalists criticized the move, predicting it would have a chilling effect on journalists attempting to cover opposition figures such as Berhanu Nega.[4]
