Spray-lining, short for Sprayed-on Lining, is any form of coating that is sprayed on with a spray gun as opposed to being rolled on or applied by another method. The advent of spray-on truck bed liners in the early 1990s in the USA categorized these applications, mainly on the bed of pickup trucks. These became more specialized coatings; stronger, thicker than usual to last a long time and also be slip proof in truck beds. A sprayed lining therefore is known to be this form of protection as opposed to a coating that is not specialized for this purpose. Growth in the spray-lining industry gave way to other applications, onto other vehicles or valuable assets that benefit from this protection and character offered by a spray-on lining. Spray-lining is not just related to trucks and bedliners. It is an industry niche-phrase that defines epoxy, polyurethane and polyurea applications as they are applied to many different situations.
