Institute of Rehabilitation for Blind People and with Low Vision “Josefina C. de Bignone” is a dependent institute of the Municipal Direction of Disability and of the Office of Public Health, and was founded in 2001. The institute aims to promote eye health prevent, detect, detect and treat eye diseases.[1]

Activities

The activities that the workshops propose are linked  to procure the social insertion of the patients, to put in practical all the tools learnt in any of the artistic expressions. These aims materialise through the access of the patients to the audible library of the Institute, workshops of Braille, theatre, conversation , writing, gardening, recreation, tourism, ceramic, fabric and lumen (group of voluntary readers).

From the team of psychology, offer individual and group therapies, so much for the patients as for his familiar, procuring facilitate the orientation and the mobility to the blind people or diminished visual, as like this also the provision of the tools strengthen his bonds with the community all.

The professionals that develop in the area of social work of the Institute promote the defence of the rights of the patients, stimulating his active participation, attenuating factors of social risk and facilitating the processing of certificates of disability. The school integration is another of the aims of this institution since it offers to the educational entities the technical and didactic support for the attention and inclusion of the students with the visual disability.

In this same sense, the specific aims that pursues the school integration found in working of inter-disciplinary way with all the professionals that take part in the treatment and the educational of the common school, making so much the curricular adaptations like the ones of the didactic material to facilitate the learning.

The audible library that finds opened to the community and that it is of big utility for the people with visual disabilities, has copies of graphic books (support of the work in ink), of audible books (support in cassette), of digital audible books (supports in CD´s), and publications in Braille.

The work typical of this library bases in attains the accessibility to the reading by means of the transformation of the graphic book in audible, as like this also the approach by means of this modality articles of general interest, literature, producing of equal way aim recorded for the disabled people in the levels of EGB, Polimodal and CBC.
