Career
Rich Riley joined Shazam Entertainment Limited as Chief Executive Officer in 2013 with nearly 20 years’ experience as an Internet entrepreneur and a successful track record of leading major domestic and international businesses. He is widely regarded as a leading authority on digital consumer experiences, advertising, digital music and media technology.
Prior to joining Shazam, Rich spent over 13 years at Yahoo!, where he was responsible for billions of dollars of revenue and managed teams of thousands, overseeing sales, account management, ad operations, B2B marketing, research and business development across the US, Canada, LatAm, Europe and the Middle East. Prior to substantial regional leadership roles reporting to the CEO, Rich led the Small and Medium Business division as well and corporate and business development roles. Rich has been based in Silicon Valley, London, Geneva and New York. He joined the company in 1999 after he led the sale to Yahoo! of a company he co-founded, Log-Me-On.com, which invented the toolbar.
Under his proven leadership, Shazam now reaches over 120 million monthly active users who Shazam more than 600 million times each month. He has led Shazam to go deeper in music with the launch of a robust content experience that includes enabling artists to share their Shazams with fans, and in less than a year, participating artists have amassed more than 2 billion followers. In addition, Shazam has transitioned its business model to being primarily advertising. The Shazam advertising offering includes connecting advertisers with Shazam’s massive user base as well as mobile engagement platform. This platform helps leading advertisers around the world to engage audiences through their mobile device. Advertisers can make their TV, cinema and radio spots Shazamable, and with the recent launch of Visual Shazam, this engagement can now be extended to print advertising, direct mail and packaging. Under Rich’s tenure, the company has organically grown with partners such as Google, Spotify and Apple. Shazam is now among the five most-installed music apps in the United States and worldwide and among the very highest-rated apps by users globally.

Riley served as EVP, Americas for Yahoo! reporting to the CEO and prior to that as SVP & MD of the EMEA Region after nine years of roles of increasing responsibilities at Yahoo! HQ in Sunnyvale, CA. In October 2011, Riley was named "One to Watch" in 40 under 40 (Fortune Magazine); according to Fortune (magazine), those listed are ‘the hottest young stars in business across the globe. As Yahoo!'s Global Corporate Sponsor for Sustainability, Riley has been an advocate for environmental awareness. He was a particularly active advocate for the Prince's Rainforest Project, which called for individuals and businesses to sign to do their part to end the eradication of the rainforests.
Early life
Rich Riley (born August 17, 1973) grew up in Austin, TX and attended Westlake High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics with concentrations in Finance & Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.[1]
Personal Life
Rich received his Bachelor of Science in Economics with concentrations in Finance & Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has appeared as an industry expert in both print and broadcast, as he is a regular guest on CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg and Fox Business Television and frequently quoted on the state of the music industry and new technology. He also serves on the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Entrepreneurial Advisory Board and is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO). Rich is an avid traveler and athlete who lives in New Canaan, Connecticut, with his wife and four children.
