Element Girl is the name of a DC Comics superhero. Her real name is Urania "Rainie" Blackwell. She first appeared in Metamorpho #10 (Jan-Feb 1967).

History

Blackwell was a government espionage agent who, after she was spurned by the man she loved (who was an enemy agent), volunteered to subject herself to the same process that turned Rex Mason into Metamorpho. The transformation was a success, and Blackwell became Element Girl, acting as a support character for Metamorpho. However, her insecurities caused problems, and in later years when her feelings for Metamorpho went unrequited, she became a shut-in. Abandoned by her employers and unwilling to face the world, Blackwell attempted suicide many times, however her powers saved her every time.

Eventually, Death of The Endless helped Blackwell. Death claimed that she herself couldn't help Blackwell, since Blackwell's immortality and powers had originated from the sun god Ra. By looking into the sun and asking Ra to remove her 'gift', she finally dies, leaving behind only a petrified body with the expression of pure joy.

Powers and Abilities

Like Metamorpho's original powers, Element Girl could transform her body into any of the elements naturally found in the human body, and shape them at her will.
