WCG is a global independent agency[1] offering integrated creative, interactive, and marketing communications services[2] to clients in healthcare, consumer products, entertainment, and technology. Established in 2001 by Jim Weiss,[3] the agency has over 380 employees serving clients from offices in San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, Austin and Los Angeles. The company also has a U.K. office in London.[4]

Foundation and expansion

Founded by Jim Weiss in 2001, WCG began as a healthcare public relations firm based in San Francisco, servicing biotechnology, specialty Pharma and device companies primarily on the West Coast. The company acquired ODA, a creative services agency, and CommonSense Media Group,[citation needed] a social media consultancy founded by Bob Pearson, who joined from Dell where he was vice president of communities and conversations. WeissComm Partners, ODA and Common Sense Media Group then merged at the end of 2009 to form WCG, a global communications company focused on creating the positive future of communications.

WCG specializes in branding, design, digital, interactive, social and traditional marketing, corporate and product PR, media, investor and advocacy relations, clinical trial recruitment, corporate and product communications marketing, location-based marketing, and grassroots direct-to-patient communications campaigns.[5]

WCG opened its first office in San Francisco in 2001. As their client base expanded they opened offices in New York (2004), Chicago (2007), London (2008), Austin (2009) and Los Angeles (2011), Minneapolis (2013),[6] Boston (2014),[7] and Atlanta (2014).[8] In 2012 they acquired Austin-based big data firm Ravel [9] and digital agency VM Foundry.[10] WCG grew revenue to $62 million in 2012, up 24% from 2011 ($47.5 million), and up 40% from 2010 ($37 million).[11] WCG has hired over 70 new staff since January 2011, 25 of whom provide creative and interactive services to its clients.[citation needed]

Restructuring

The former WeissComm Group announced the introduction of W2O Group, a parent company for WCG and two new brands - Twist Mktg and W2O Ventures, in March, 2012.[12] As of March 2013, two new brands have joined parent company WCG - W20 Digital based in Austin, and BrewLife, a firm focused on the specific needs of entrepreneurial start-up companies and brands.
