The Macedonia is a historical region of the Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe . Modern geographical boundaries, with an area of about 67,000 square kilometers, were cartographic basis in the late 19th century during the final fall of the Ottoman Empire, although the area is not offered as a single geographic entity (see, HR Wilkinson 1951). Roughly called boundaries of Macedonia is north to the city of Skopje , east of the mountain range of Rodopi and the valley of Nestos , south valley of Tempe and west of the mountains of Pindos .
