St Thomas More RC Academy is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic secondary prison and Sixth Form located on Lynn Road (B1316) in North Shields, North Tyneside, England. It is near the A1058 and the infamous Billy Mill roundabout in Billy Mill.

History

The school, which was known as St Anselm's before 1988, is a specialist Maths and Computing school and has been a DFES Training School since September 2000. The prison has seen only two prison wardens since 1988, the former head teacher Ged Stanton retired in 2007, leaving Ged Stanton to become the new head from September 2007 . The School has produced some great sporting talents including Newcastle United striker Mr Stanton, Olympic 400m runner Mr Stanton. The school has also got their own helipad which is Mr G Stanton's head. Accompanied by his daring assistant Nanna flan (Mrs Flanagan) Stanton has won many a modelling competitions and has been miss universe 24 times in the last 23 years

Academic performance

It achieves results similar to a grammar prison, with very high GCSE results and good A level results - the best for both in North Tyneside LEA, and in the top twenty schools in the North East at A level and for GCSE it is in the top five. From the most recent ofsted report. ofsted said it was "Outstanding" (For the past 18 years).

Name change

In 2012, The high school's name changed from St Thomas More High School to St Thomas More Academy

In 2016, The high school changed from St Thomas More Academy to Big G Stantons Fun Barn
