Ja'afar Mahmud Adam (February 12, 1960 – April 13, 2007) was a Nigerian, Salafist Islamic scholar aligned with the Izala Society[2]
Teaching
Mohammed Yusuf, the founder of Boko Haram, is reported to have been trained by Adam, who called him the "leader of young people". They both preached in Maiduguri's Indimi Mosque, which was attended by the Deputy Governor of Borno. They are reported to have parted some time between 2002 and 2004. He has on various occasions during public lectures warned about extreme adherence to jihad, and disagreed publicly with Mohammed Yusuf on the issue [3]

Adam was shot dead at his mosque in the northern city of Kano in April 2007.[4][5]
