Kevin Franklin
Kevin Franklin, holds degrees in Psychology, Education and Organization and Leadership. Formerly he served as Executive Director of the University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI)[1], Co-Chair of the University of California, Office of the President's Humanities, Arts and Social Science Technology Advisory Committee, and a Deputy Director of the University of California San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC),[2] Dr. Franklin was appointed Executive Director, Institute for Computing in Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, (I-CHASS),[3] Professor, Education Policy, Organization and Leadership,[4] and Professor, African American Studies.[5] In addition he holds the appointment of Associate Director, Senior Research Scientist and Advisor to the Directors Office, National Center for Supercomputing Applications[6] at the University of Illinois[7] in July 2007.
Dr. Franklin is a principal co-founder and serves on the Executive Committee of the Humanities, Arts, Science and Technology Alliance and Collaboratory (HASTAC)[8] In May 2007, Dr. Franklin co-guest edited with David Theo Goldberg Cyberinfrastructure Technology Watch[9] for the issue "Socializing Cyberinfrastructure: Networking the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences".[10] In addition to his United States HASS Cyberinfrastructure work, Dr. Franklin is Principal Investigator of a number of international research activities including the Organization of American States Advanced Research and Technology Collaboratory for the Americas (OAS-ARTCA) which he co-founded in 2007 and is hosted at the Organization of the American States (OAS) in Washington DC. OAS- ARTCA serves the 35 Member Countries of the OAS.
Dr. Franklin began his academic career on the faculty of School of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University[11] where he also directed the SFSU Urban Scholars Minority Student Outreach Program and he was appointed a Senior Fellow in the San Francisco Urban Institute. Dr. Franklin served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors and Interim Executive Director for Summerbridge National (Currently named Breakthrough Collaborative[12]) and he was a founder of the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club Project Discover Program[13] and a co-founder of the TEAMS AmeriCorps Minority Teacher Fellowship Program[14]
In recognition for his work in education reform and founding of the Multicultural Alliance, a National Minority Teacher Fellowship program Dr. Franklin received the Columbia University[15]Teachers College[16] Klingenstein Center[17] Leadership Award in 1997. Dr. Franklin was named one of the Top 12 People to Watch in 2010 in Supercomputing by HPCwire[18] and the HPCwire Workforce Diversity Leadership Award in 2014.
