The love padlocks is a unique site in the centre of the southern Hungarian town Pécs.

The padlocks are hanging from an iron fence in a narrow street linking the mosque in the city's main square and the magnificent medieval cathedral. They were clamped there by lovers who wanted to demonstrate by the gesture that their link last forever.

It is unknown when the first padlock appeared on the fence, but in the early 1980s the first padlocks were certainly there.

In the early 2000s the city authorities fought an uphill battle against the spreading of the padlocks which started to appear in several points of the citz centre, including statues.

Miskolc, Riga

Probably encouraged by the example of Pécs, lovers have started to fasten padlocks on the fence of a bridge in Miskolc, a city in the northern part of the country.

Smilar customs exist in Riga, the capital of [[Latvia>]], where married couples clamp padlocks on the railings of a bridge and throw the key into the lake below.
