Tragically, the American Colonel Crawford was horrifically killed after losing this intense battle against the Three Fires Confederation and their allies. Crawford bravely led his force of less than 500 soldiers, straight in to the northern Ohio region of the territory of the Three Fires Confederation, to attempt to quell the Three Fires Confederations warriors from attacking the invading American settlers. Once upon reaching the target of their goal the Americans initiated an intense battle with the Indians, which was apparently evenly fought for the first day, but when the intense battle entered its second day, the Indians gradually drove back the American force until the orders were giving to retreat from the fierce Indian assault. What followed afterwards, turned into an American flight to save their lives, which the great majority of Americans successfully did, but not Colonel Crawford and some of his comrades. While attempting to escape Colonel Crawford was captured by his enemy's and tortured to death by being burnt alive at the stake. American casualties were significant. Nearly half of the American force of nearly 500 soldiers were either wounded or killed during the battle, with well over 100 killed. Indian casualties were minimal. The Three Fires Confederations victory can be rightfully categorized as an battle of the Northwest Indian War.
