Eye of the Storm (originally released as L'oeil du Cyclone) is a 2015 Burkinabé psychological drama film directed by Sékou Traoré and produced by Axel Guyot.[1][2] It received ten nominations at the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards and won in three categories including Best Film.[3]

Eye of the Storm was written by Christophe Lemoine and Luis Marques, and was starred by Fargrass Assandre and Maἴmouna N'diaye.[4]

Eye of the Storm was released to the United States on May 29, 2016 and is 101 minutes (1 hour, 41 minutes) long.

Synopsis

A young lawyer (N'Diaye) accepts to defend a captured fugitive in what her boss titled "The Trial of the Century". Persistent to ensure a good and fair trial for the fugitive, Tou visits Blackshouam Vila (played by Fargass) and tries to win his trust. As Vila, a middle aged man who was once a child soldier, tells Tou his history, Tou discovers the terrors of a child forced to commit many crimes, including murder. Vila also tells Tou how he is wavering between celebrating his actions and complaining about his nightmares, which frequently include his past victims.[5]

The more Tou digs, the more she finds that points to government officials' involvement in causing Vila's crimes. Readying for a court battle, Tou is sealed into a search for truth where heroes and villains are only shades of gray.[5]
