ROSE Online, or Rush On Seven Episodes Online (Korean:로즈 온라인)is an MMORPG developed by Korean company Triggersoft and published by Gravity Corp., the publisher of Ragnarok Online.

Story

The fictional world of ROSE Online consists of seven unique planets. Each planet has its own set of particular environments, characteristics and monsters.

Gameplay

Gameplay mostly consists of killing monsters and earning items from them. There are three types of items, to which the Inventory is divided: Equipment, which a character may wear to enhance their abilities; consumable which consists of consumable items that may recover HP, MP or Stamina, or perform an effect (ex. dance, learn a skill), and Etc which covers general miscellany, such as materials for crafting, gems, and ammunition for weapons that need them. A player may sell these items to an NPC or another player for money. Alternatives to walking include the Tuning system which features control of a Cart or Castle Gear. The game costs $12.99 per month, and may be less depending on the payment option selected.

There are a total of 3 forms of transportation available in ROSE Online:

Carts

Carts are very customized to suit the owner. They can be purchased from the NPC, or can be crafted by dealers. A base cart that is only going to be used to riding requires a frame, engine, and wheels of similar part version. Battle carts require weapons that are assigned to a specific class. Another aspect available with carts are cart skills, which are also assigned to a class. Backseats are the last kind of accessory you can add to your cart. They allow users to invite another player to ride on their cart with them. Currently there are only two different kinds, with one of them adding to the movement speed of your cart.

Castle Gear

The Castle Gear is a fearsome battle machine that was originally designed to tear down and demolish castles. Castle Gears may be equipped with different weapons, including (but not limited to) a set of mechanical hands, arm-mounted drills and arm-mounted. Castle Gear hasn't been enabled yet in the pROSE version.

Flying Vessel

Unlike Carts and Castle Gears, the Flying Vessel cannot be owned by a user. It is operated by NPC's and ferry players from planet to planet.

First Jobs

There are 250 levels total in which at level 100 depending on the version of roseonline you can switch to a second job.

Visitor

This is the job everyone starts with. At level 10 you can start a quest to become a Muse, Soldier, Dealer, or Hawker. Visitors may remain Visitors as long as they like, but unfortunately cannot use any skills except the basic ones. Visitors start out with a basic set of armor (the Visitor Look), a stylish piece of headgear (depending on the character's gender), a Wooden Sword and 200 zulie (currency of ROSE Online).

Muse

Muses use magic to attack enemies or heal/enchant fellow players. Muses use intelligence as their main stat. Some Muses take dexterity, allowing them to use Katar-type weapons or Dual Weapons and giving them dodge rate, while still having Muse's skills to help them. Muses use magic staves or wands, the latter usually with a support tool. If Muses reach level 70, they can choose a second job: Magician or Cleric.

Soldier

Soldiers are melee/ranged fighters, who focus on offense or defense. Soldiers use strength as their main stat. Soldiers use one- or two-handed swords, blunt weapons, spears, axes, shields and, not very commonly, bowguns. Their second job form is either Knight or Champion.

Dealer

Dealers are businessmen, who can craft items or summon warriors using money. Dealers use concentration as their main stat. Dealers use guns and launchers. Dealers can be further divided into 2 classes, Artisian or Bourgeois.

Hawker

Hawkers are fast characters, and wear light armor. Since the removal of dexterity increasing movement speed, they are no longer as fast. However, they still base themselves on dexterity, which is their main stat. Hawkers use katars, dual weapons or bows.

Second Jobs

After reaching level 100 (pRose Version), completing a quest, and paying (pRose Version) 200k zulie to junon's mayor, Darren, each of the four jobs can choose to become either one of their second jobs.

Muse Second Jobs

Magician

Magicians, or Mages, are the offensive branch of Muses. They are very good at PvP combat, since attack spells never miss and usually only other Magicians or Muses have substantial amounts of magic defense. The Mages have the strongest area of effect spells, but are in the most danger using them given their relatively low defense. Mages typically use staves, whose damage are influenced by strength and intelligence.

Cleric

Clerics are the supportive branch of Muses. Dexterity-based Clerics are those that use dexterity based weapons and their enchantments to kill monsters solo. (Dex-Cleric not in pRose or NaRose system) Support Clerics focus on making their healing spells and enchantments stronger and mostly dependent on parties to level. Support Clerics usually use wands and either special support tools or slotted shields which are gemmed with Intelligence-adding Topazes.

Soldier Second Jobs

Knight

Knights are the defensive branch of Soldiers. Knights usually use one-handed weapons and shields and use area of effect skills, depending on their high defense to do it safely. There are also bowgun (Crossbow) Knights that use a ranged weapon and a shield, but these are very rare because there are few good bowgun builds.

Champion

Champions are the offensive branch of Soldiers. Champions usually use two-handed weapons such as axes, spears and two-handed swords. Champions excel at destroying single enemies such as bosses, but cannot effectively take damage of (or "tank") multiple enemies at once.

Dealer Second Jobs

Artisan

Artisans are the less aggressive branch of Dealers. Artisans can craft equipment, Carts, Castle Gears, can cut gems, and upgrade equipment, as well as separate gems from socketed items. Artisans usually use two sets of equipment, one for fighting, and one to craft. Artisans are the only job that can make gems, which are very valuable, so many Artisans earn a lot money. Because most Artisans prefer to use as many crafting skills as possible instead of fighting skills, they often focus on speed to accommodate their high chance to inflict "critical hits", which deal three times the normal attack damage, via taking a lot of sense as a stat. Artisans are most commonly seen using guns.

Bourgeois

Bourgeois, or Bourgs, are all about money. Bourgs are known for their strong mercenary summons, which cost money to use. Most Bourgs use cannons instead of guns. Bourgs almost universally invest in the Stockpile passive skill, which increases the number of items they receive per item drop and therefore allows them to earn more items to sell. There are also skills that reduce NPC vendor prices and let them sell items for more money to NPC.

Hawker Second Jobs

Scout

Hawkers who prefer using bows can advance to the Scout job, who specialize in delivering death from afar with various skills. Scouts can summon a Hawk to help them.

Raider

Raiders are advanced to by the Hawkers who use katars and dual weapons, capable of hitting enemies fast. Raiders specialize in assassination and are capable of using stealthy, quick movements and devastating skills.

In-game weapons

There are a variety of weapons to use in ROSE Online. The weapons aren't restricted by the player's job, but their level and a specific stat. This allows weird combinations to be seen, such as Soldiers with Magic Wands or Hawkers with Guns. Some weapons have "slots" in them, which allows the user to put a jewel or gem into it and increase certain stats. Eg. Garnet gives Dex. In order to put the gem in, you need to bring it to a certain NPC. Dealers can craft their own gem into their weapons when they learn the skill. Weapons, and items in general, can be divided into three broad categories, namely ordinary craftable items, identifiable by their yellow colored name, prefixed items, only found from monster drops and identifiable by their blue colored name, and unique items, easily spotted by their purple colored name.

Weapons come in 11 different types:

  • Axes
  • Spears
  • One-handed Swords
  • Two-handed Swords
  • Blunt Weapons
  • Bowguns
  • Bows
  • Katars
  • Guns
  • Launchers (Cannons)
  • Magic Wands
  • Magic Staves

Under the pROSE system, as well as under the future Evolution system, the weapon prefixes have become standardized. Here are the list of prefixed and their effects. All weapon prefixes automatically subtract five levels from the ordinary requirement for the weapon. Na/P/Eu Rose versions:

  • Grand - Gives HP
  • Golden - Adds MP
  • Elven - Increases Mp Recovery
  • Saint - Subtracts Five more levels from overall level requirement.
  • Dark - Adds Attack Speed
  • Demon - Adds Critical
  • Legend - Adds Dexterity

Under the IROSE,Jrose and Krose system, the weapon prefixes are more sophisticated then those of the Na/P/Eu Rose versions. Here are the list of prefixed and their effects. The better the effects are, the higher overall level requirement in using the weapon is needed.

  • Grand - Gives good attack power and attack speed
  • Golden - Gives attack power and attack speed
  • Holy - Gives great attack power and attack speed
  • Saint - Gives good attack power
  • Elven - Gives good attack power
  • Legend - Gives very good attack power and attack speed
  • Dark - Gives good attack and attack power

Stats

Stats are the base of a character. Stats determine what a character can do, how hard (s)he attacks, what (s)he can wear and such. A character earns points you can increase your stats with when you level up. The higher a stat is, the higher the required points. Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Concentration are 15 on a newly-made character, whereas Charm and Sense are 10. The maximum value of a stat is 300.

Strength (STR)

  • Increases maximum HP.
  • Increases melee attack power.
  • Increases defense.
  • Increases the maximum weight a character can carry.
  • Increases launcher damage.
  • Slightly increases bow damage.

Dexterity (DEX)

  • Increases dodge rate.
  • Increases damage dealt with bows, katars and guns.
  • Slightly increases other melee damage.
  • Increases Movement Speed in versions: Krose, IRose and JRose.

Intelligence (INT)

  • Increases maximum MP.
  • Increases magical attack and magical defense.

Concentration (CON)

  • Increases attack accuracy.
  • Increases the crafting success possibility.
  • Increases recovery speed of MP and HP.
  • Increases attack power with guns and launchers.
  • Slightly increases the chance to do a critical attack.

Charm (CHA)

  • Eases conditions of completing quests.
  • Increases rewards of completing quests.
  • It has been clearly stated in the tips during gameplay that charm affects mob aggression.

Sense (SEN)

  • Increases the quality of crafted items (debatable under the pROSE system).
  • Increases the chance to do a critical attack.
  • Increases attack power for wand users.
  • Increases skill damage.

Differences between the ROSE versions

While there are different versions of ROSE Online, there are some differences between them. These differences reside mainly in the quests as well as the skill system. There are two variants of ROSE Online, which can be classified as the kROSE variant (Korean kROSE, Japanese jROSE) and pROSE variant (Philippines pROSE, North American naROSE, Taiwanese twROSE and European euROSE) variants.

iROSE Variant

The Beta form of roseonline introduced to mainly English speaking gamers. It was released for less than a year before Gravity Inc/Triggersoft closed this version to expand the idea and form the different R.O.S.E. Online variants as listed (besides kROSE). This version contained the most data of roseonline including: Unique weapons, Castle Gear, Clan points system, and much much more. English speaking players from around the world flocked to play and were immediately addicted. Unforunately the gaming protection in Irose or mabey R.O.S.E. Online in general is very much flawed. Hackers of all sorts discovered various ways to exploit the game, ultimately destroying the economy thus the game.

kROSE / jROSE variant

The main quest starts out in Zant and continues on through out a large chunk of the game. A later part of the quest is used to allow you to get to the second planet, Luna.

The skill system works through a combination of skill books and SP (skill points). You first purchase a skill book for the skill you want and then you can upgrade it by using a certain amount of SP. The SP required to upgrade a skill varies from skill to skill, and will increase as the skill's level increases.

All skills require at least several SP to upgrade even right from the start. Every time you level up you get a certain amount of SP proportionate to your level. As your level increases, so does the amount of SP you gain.

pROSE variant

The main quest starts out shortly after leaving Birth Island in the Adventurer's Plains rather than Zant. By the time you reach Junon Polis the quest just sort of fizzles out. The quest to get to Luna appears to be completely separate, or at most loosely related, to the main quest of the game.

The pROSE variant skill system is similar in the way it works to the kRose variant. You still buy or acquire by monster drop the books and you still use SP. The differences though is in the amount of SP you earn while leveling up, what is required to upgrade skills, and what skills are available.

Starting at level 10 until level 210, you will gain one sp per level up. So at level 210, you'll have 201 SP spent. To upgrade a skill you will need to use only one SP, but you will also have to pay a certain amount of zuly.

naROSE Variant

North American version of ROSE Online. Different from the original beta form of ROSE Online ( Irose:international roseon ). This variant now include many features such as the third planet Eldeon, Clan points system, and castle gear system at the moment. It has been implemented at the scheduled release of EVO-ROSE to the North American population ( 24th August , 2006 ). This version is still as low populated as it was but in comparasion of the old IRose that version is the future because they will soon or late get more things implemented than IRose.

Item Mall

A mall in the site (worldwide) where you can buy new items with topping up with load. Implemented in August on pROSE and naROSE. out in kROSE and jROSE[1]

Private Servers

After numerous groups began developing derivative works of the ROSE Online commercial servers, only a few projects have emerged into playable versions of the game. The most infamous versions are auROSE, which is created from scratch and based on the Evolution client. The other main project is Ruff-ROSE, which uses binaries that were sabotaged from the original iROSE servers and patched for modern usability on the classic kROSE client.

It is also good to note that since august few peoples started to work at 2 emulators ( one using Rose and the other one using EVO Rose ) with public release and peoples now can work at the code and post their work. There are still 2 teams working on their own private emulator , as said earlier , auRose ( directed by kb123 ) and Hrose ( now directed by DeathCode and in past by me Shibii ). Some peoples still hope to see a public svn similar to the one of Eathena ( Ragnarok Online emulator ) but none of the peoples coding on rose agreed yet. AuRose and HRose should be playable in 2007, maybe in 2006 if we are lucky.
