Shmuel Trigano
Shmuel Trigano (born in 1948 in Blida) is a sociologist, philosopher, professor of religious and political sociology at Nanterre University and acts as President of l’Observatoire du monde juif.[1]
He has published numerous works including La démission de la République: Juifs et musulmans en France (P.U.F., 2003), Qu’est-ce que la religion? (Flammarion, 2001) and Le monothéisme est un humanisme (Odile Jacob, 2000).
He is the Director of the College of Jewish Studies of the Alliance Israélite Universelle, he also directs the magazine Pardès. The latter he helped co-found in 1985 with his teacher, Annie Kriegel.[2]
He is the author of numerous books including L’E(xc)lu (Denoël, 2003), La démission de la République: Juifs et musulmans en France (P.U.F., 2003), Qu’est-ce que la religion? (Flammarion, 2001) and Le monothéisme est un humanisme (Odile Jacob, 2000) and he is a specialist in Jewish tradition and contemporary Judaism.[3] His works have been characterized by Paula E. Hyman as, "controversial books that stress the need for Jews to base their ethics and politics on classical Jewish values rather than Western thought and political development."[2]
His last published book was The Future of the Jews of France (Grasset).
He is on the editorial board of the journal Hebraic Political Studies.
