Edwin Pearson Parker Jr. (July 27, 1891 – June 7, 1983) was a Major general (United States) in the United States Army. Parker commanded the 78th Infantry Division (United States) during the Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland, and Central Europe, campaigns of World War II.[1][2] Under his command, the division, nicknamed "Lightning,"[3] helped secure the Ludendorff Bridge during the Battle of Remagen.[4][5]

Born in Wytheville, Virginia, and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C.,[6] he attended George Washington University and was commissioned as a Second lieutenant in the Field Artillery Branch (United States) in 1912.[7] He served in the Panama Canal Zone during World War I.[8] Then, during the interbellum period, he served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science and Tactics, first at Ohio State University,[9] and then at Harvard University.[10] After World War II, he served as the United States Army Provost Marshal General until his retirement in 1953.[11][12]

Parker was awarded, most notably, the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with one bronze oak leaf cluster, Croix de Guerre (France), and the Croix de Guerre (Belgium).[13][14]
