This page needs a lot of work. I propose adding the following sections: Function (general function and chemistry of heme proteins, an expanded version of function [heme]); a discussion about iron coordination and iron spin state; the role of heme distortion; types of ligands; how heme proteins are studied; and then a list of heme proteins. Virginal compound?

What the heck is that (para. 1)? Despite a difference in spelling, a search of the web for "virginal compound" returns only results about vaginal topics.
