Four to the floor or four-on-the-floor is a nickname given to a type of dance music characterized by a rhythmic pattern where the kick drum falls on each beat in 4/4 time. Popularized in the 1960s and in the disco music of the 1970s. Today, most popular music, and nearly all dance music, is written in 4/4 time.

Examples of music that are referred to as "four to the floor" are disco, house, techno and trance. There is a common misconception that 4/4 and "four to the floor" can be used interchangeably. However, one must differentiate between the time signature and the rhythmic programming of a song, and much music written in the time signature 4/4 does not use the "four to the floor" pattern.
