Replaced Deek Hoi after he was deleted by an anonymous user with no explanation. Please see my discussion under Psych Folk for notation. Thanks! Martillie 1:10, 17 May 2006

Divided list into two columns

I forked the article to Wikinfo

They allow SPOV and OR, so you might be able to expand the list, and in time, make this article good enough for reproduction. Just saying.70.54.181.70 (talk) 20:29, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@Artykmbandmaster: Please read WP:ORIGINALRESEARCH and WP:TONE. If you want to add information to the article, not only does it need to be presented in a formal tone, but it has to be supported by a reliable source (see WP:RS for what constitutes a reliable source) --Ilovetopaint (talk) 15:41, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ilovetopaint: Please read WP entry for Electric Folk to see just how much information on a particular genre can be included without having to resort to post 2000 web factoids. you are excluding alot of electronic folk artists from this space by constantly deleting references. Just grow up Artykmbandmaster (talk) 19:19, 18 June 2017 (UTC) artykmbandmaster[reply]

The nature of Wikipedia means that you cannot make a convincing argument based solely on whether or not the same or similar content exists or is formatted similarly in some other page. Because there is nothing stopping anyone from editing or creating any article. --Ilovetopaint (talk) 20:43, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For example: the statement "the capital of France is Paris" needs no source, because no one is likely to object to it and we know that sources exist for it. The statement is attributable, even if not attributed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artykmbandmaster (talkcontribs) 19:58, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not publish original research. Its content is determined by published information rather than the beliefs or experiences of its editors. Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it. --Ilovetopaint (talk) 20:43, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It is sometimes felt that "obvious" statements, such as "the sky is blue," do not need citing. However, there are some reasons why you do need to cite the "obvious", such as that the sky is blue. First of all, you do need citations in the "main" article, i.e., where the subject is the "obvious" statement or its major element. I.e., the statement "the sky is blue" must be footnoted in the article "Sky", especially in the section which discusses the color of the sky. Such references usually lead to more detailed knowledge. Even the most obvious and simple assertion may need an explanation. The statement that the sky is blue needs explaining that it is due to Rayleigh scattering. Citing the sources which explain why it is blue would be valuable to all readers. --Ilovetopaint (talk) 20:43, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Editors please be aware that at the present time the genre Electronic Folk also re-directs to this page. I propose that the origins of the genre be changed to 1973 my precedent for this would be Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells pt4 (sailors hornpipe) unless anyone can find me an example of why Mike Oldfields "sailors hornpipe" is NOT electronic folk music beacuse I would like to hear their example. artykmbandmaster — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artykmbandmaster (talkcontribs) 20:30, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you want those changes in the article, you need to find reliable sources that state in no uncertain terms:
  1. Folktronica originates from 1973
  2. "Folktronica" is an equivalent word for "electronic folk"
  3. Tubular Bells is/pioneered folktronica/electronic folk --Ilovetopaint (talk) 20:43, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ilovetopaint: well, it hinges on whether folktronica is an equivalent word for electronic folk at this point. the OED has folktronica (noun): style of popular music incorporating elements of folk and electronic music please note the use of electronic and not electronica - I think this is an important distinction as electronica could be taken to infer a variety of sources like kraftwerk, cabaret voltaire, yello, daft punk which would not be very informative of this genre I don't feel.
