Dumbo is an upcoming American live-action fantasy film directed by Tim Burton. It is a remake of the 1941 animated film of the same name. The film will star Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Eva Green and Danny DeVito.[1]

Plot

Cast

  • Colin Farrell as Holt, the widowed father of two kids who befriend the title elephant.[2]
  • Eva Green as Colette, a French trapeze artist who performs at the circus.[3]
  • Michael Keaton as Vandemere, a ruthless businessman who acquires a circus to exploit the title elephant.[4]
  • Danny DeVito as Medici, a man who runs a small circus that gets acquired by Vandemere.[5]

Production

Development

On July 8, 2014, it was announced that a live-action remake of Dumbo was in development for Walt Disney Pictures. Ehren Kruger was confirmed as the screenwriter, and Justin Springer will serve as the producer along with Kruger.[6] On March 10, 2015, Tim Burton was announced as the director.[7]

Casting

In January 2017, it was announced that Will Smith was "in talks" to play the father of the children who develop a friendship with the lovable elephant after seeing him at the circus.[8] However, Smith later passed on the role due to "scheduling conflicts" among other reasons.[9] Chris Pine and Casey Affleck were also offered the role but passed on it before Colin Farrell was cast.[2]

In March 2017, Eva Green and Danny Devito joined the cast.[10][5] In April 2017, Michael Keaton joined the cast, rounding out the few prominent "adult" live-action roles.[4] Tom Hanks was reportedly in discussions for the role before Keaton was cast.[8]

Filming

Principal production on Dumbo commenced in July 2017, in the United Kingdom.[11]
