On 17 August 2017, a van hit pedestrians on Las Ramblas, Barcelona, leaving two people dead and dozens injured. Two armed men then entered a Turkish restaurant and took hostages.[1][2]
Reactions
Gàbia operation was deployed by Mossos d'Esquadra in order to locate the perpetrator(s). All events in Barcelona were cancelled, and Carles Puigdemont and Ada Colau cancelled their holidays so as to return to the city and take part in the crisis committee.[3]
