Freaky Friday is a musical with music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, and a book by Bridget Carpenter. Based on the 1972 book of the same name, the musical is an adaptation of the 1976 and 2003 films. When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again before mom’s big wedding.

Productions

It debuted at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia on October 4, 2016.[1] The production moved to the La Jolla Playhouse in 2017.[2]

Television Adaptation

A Disney Channel television adaption of the stage musical was announced on September 29, 2017. Blickenstaff will reprise her role as the mother, Katherine, while Cozi Zuehlsdorff will star as the daughter, Ellie. Carpenter will return to adapt the musical as a teleplay, while Kitt and Yorkey will return to oversee the music and lyrics. The TV adaptation will be produced by Susan Cartsonis and Thomas Schumacher.[5]
