Yesterday (known in Spain as New York Crimes) is a point and click adventure game game developed by Pendulo Studios released on 29 March 2012 by FX Interactive in Spain and Italy and by Focus Home Interactive in other countries. The story revolves around John Yesterday, a man who has been hired by Henry White to investigate the murder of homeless people in New York City.

Plot

In 2011 in New York, homeless people are disappearing one after another, their bodies found lifeless. Meanwhile, a Y-shaped scar appears on the hands of seemingly unrelated people. Henry White, a young and rich heir dedicated to a charitable organization, and his friend Cooper, are the first to investigate. They soon cross paths with the enigmatic John Yesterday, whose memory seems to have been wiped clear, and who will find himself dragged into this incredible story.

Critical reception

On Metacritic, the game has a rating of 77% based on 11 critic reviews.[10] SlideToPlay described it as "A quality adventure game with a sinister and twisting story complete with layers of puzzles and a smattering of dark humor and obscure references",[11] while AppAdvice said "My only complaint is that it is a bit short, but that is easily overlooked when you consider its low price point ($4.99) and its innovative graphic style".[12] TouchArcade wrote "My only regret was that it didn't go on longer (but sequel maybe, please?)",[13] and Touch Gen described it "an engrossing and rewarding experience" adding "I was surprised by its plot, intrigued by its themes and writing, and stimulated by its many puzzles".[14] Multiplayer.it said "What a pity that Yesterday has such a rough plot and shallow characters, because it's instead one of the most intriguing and mysterious adventures on the App Store".[15] 4Players.de wrote "Pendulo is on the right track. The conspiracy thriller with its’ complex story keeps you on your edge, while the puzzles are mostly conservative, but are nicely tailored to the narrative",[16] though PocketGamer said "Yesterday is as dark as a summer's day and as funny as a kick in the teeth. The puzzles are poorly designed and the story barely even makes sense. Leave this one in the past".[17]
