A vandal bot is a script or "robot" that attempts to vandalize or spam massive amounts of content on the internet, usually adding advertising links similar to the content found in email spam. Most vandal bots are based on legitimate robot scripts which perform useful maintenance tasks like article categorisation or correcting typo's.

Vandal bots on Wikipedia

Wikipedia's registered bots are used to help with the more repitive and monotonous aspects of wiki workflow and all conform to Wikipedia's robot policies, but these scripts have been modified to make vandal bots which violate the policies by pose as normal Human users with the purpose of performing Wikipedia vandalism. To counteract this problem some of Wikipedia's, are specifically designed to detect vandalism and revert it or report it to administrators by placing the affected article into the appropriate wiki workflow category.
