Sherry Belmont

Sherry Belmont (Sherry Bellmond in the Japanese version) is the one who first tells Kiyo Takamine (Kiyomaro Takamine) about the battle for the Mamodo Kingship. She also explains the rules of the battle and the connection between the books, the bookkeepers, and the mamodo. Sherry and Brago initially defeat Kiyo and his mamodo, Zatch Bell (Gash Bell); however, Sherry opts not to burn Zatch's book, stating that she and Brago will be back to finish the deed later.

Childhood

Sherry is a beautiful girl from a prosperous background. She lives in a large mansion, along with her mother (it is unknown whether or not she lives with her father as well) and many servants. Sherry's mother is a cold-hearted woman who expects Sherry to excel at everything in life, believing that the Belmont family blood should make her perfect. As a young girl, Sherry's mother called her a "useless child" and Sherry decided to attempt to commit suicide by jumping into a river. She was saved by a poor girl named Koko, who told her that even if things currently seem bad, they would get better in the future. The two quickly became best friends.

Meeting Brago

One day Sherry learned from her butler, Albert (Jii in Japan), that Koko was accepted into the college of her choice. Sherry quickly rode to the village to see Koko, only to find it in flames. Despite Albert's protests, she rushed into the village to find Koko.

To her horror, she realized that Koko, along with an evil mamodo named Zofis, had destroyed the village. Zofis had altered her soul so that destroying things and hurting others could be fun for her. Koko then attacked Sherry, and, believing her to be dead, left with Zofis.

However, before the blast hit, Brago managed to get in front of Sherry and block the attack. He sensed that she was his partner, and as fate would have it, she could read his book. Sherry decided that she would use Brago to kill Zofis, and wishes to end the demon battle forever. But Brago had an extremely violent, wild personality; he attempted to force Sherry to do what he wanted, and even threatened to kill her beloved butler and friend, Albert. Sherry, unshaken, threatens to kill herself if he doesn't obey her. With her dead, he wouldn't be able to fight at all. Brago reluctantly agreed to listen to her.

Brago, like all mamodo, seems to have a very large appetite, as evidenced when he eats an entire alligator raw, much to Sherry's disgust.

Change in personality

Brago, even though he won't admit it, has changed since he first met Sherry. Both Sherry and Albert note that he has become more compassionate, and has a regal air to him. Brago has a dignified, quiet personality much different from his previous violent tendencies. Brago shows a soft side when he protects a boy and his grandfather from a vicious bear, then later saves them again from a bulldozer as well as an avalanche; after the boy tells him that he'll try his hardest to become stronger, he even replies with a smile.
