Noga Erez (born 26 December 1989) is an Tel-Aviv-based singer, songwriter and producer.[1]

Career

Throughout her childhood Erez explored different instruments and studied different styles of music, taking singing and piano lessons.[2] She was a part of different groups and ensembles as a vocalist, keyboardist and percussionist.[3] She sung backing vocals and played percussion for the Tel-Aviv indie-folk group The Secret Sea, and also formed a jazz trio, with whom she recorded an album, although it was never released.[4] She studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, and at 18 was conscripted into the army as a military musician.[5][6]

On stage, Erez performs as a three-piece-band with Noga (vocals), Ori Rousso (Sampler, Synthesizer) and Jacobovitz Ran (Electronic drums, Percussions).

In 2016, she performed as part of the Israeli music showcase at the Rio Olympics.[7] In 2017, she was included in Forbes Israel's "Under 30" list.[8]

Influences

Erez' musical style draws influences from Alternative, Electronic and sample-based Hip Hop, but is also strongly influenced by political circumstances both in her country and globally, although she has been reticent to describe her work as political.[9] In an interview with the Guardian, Erez describes her songs as her way to “process the issues that bother me about the world”.[10]

She produced her first record "Off The Radar“ with her partner, co-writer and producer Ori Rousso, which was released June 2, 2017 via City Slang.[11][12] This release was followed by festival shows at Primavera, SXSW, Pitchfork Paris, Roskilde, MELT! and Great Escape in 2017. She also toured the UK in 2017.[13]

Erez’s music features styles such as Electro, Alternative, Rhythm and Blues, Hip Hop or Pop and references her musical influences such as Flying Lotus, Björk, MIA, Frank Ocean or Kendrick Lamar.[14]

With a mix of drum computers, synthesizers and vocals she describes the chaos in the environment she grew up with through bass-heavy and danceable tunes.
